Faith and CKI

A while back I purchased this cute message board in the dollar section at Target, a part of the store I make an appearance in whenever I venture out. I grabbed this board and found some cute shapes and emojis to incorporate with the messages I envisioned. It now hangs on my apartment door above the mirror I check my beautiful face in before I leave each day.

The first message I wrote on this board was "Don't be late." At the time, this was the most important thing for me to see when I left my apartment. My consistency with time had been lacking, and I was beginning to see the effects of my lateness in many areas of my life and how it affected those around me to some degree.

This past Sunday I wanted to change the board from "Hi Jon" (my friend Jon recently stayed at my place) to a message of inspiration. That is when I rummaged for the letters to spell out "Faith and CKI." Right now these are the two biggest areas in my life that I need to focus on: my faith and walk with God and the business that fuels my passions.

Focus #1 - Faith

It is hard for me to admit, especially since I work at two churches and attend Sunday services every weekend, but my devotion and prayer life is incredibly dry. I pick up my Bible once a week, if even! Prayers are said on the fly with little reverence to how magnificent our God is. But I want to grow in this area. I want to persevere and take steps to get myself into a spiritually healthy place.

Focus #2 - CKI

You might be asking what CKI is, or if you have been following my social media over the past 1.5 years or had a heartfelt conversation with me then you might know what I am talking about.
Culture Kids International is a nonprofit organization formed by three friends and myself. We exist to educate and inform others in order to become culturally competent, as well as provide a platform for youth and young adults to make a change in their surrounding and greater community. CKI has been fueling my passion to make a difference in the lives of others.

I say we are a nonprofit organization, but our legal status is still in the works. I am the Director of Administration and Communication for Culture Kids. Much of our work right now as an entity has fallen onto my shoulders, because it requires attention to detail and the need to promote who we are.

I believe that every role and responsibility in my life at this very moment is for such a time as this. My administrative skills and knowledge, the ability to work well with others, and my drive to support those around me are areas in my career that I am growing in everyday. I genuinely believe that my professional career choices are positively impacting my work with Culture Kids. It is a joy to wake up each morning, be excited to go to work to do what I love, and later use this knowledge to help CKI succeed.

I thank God for His provision in my life and for trusting me to work with my friends and grow an organization that will have a lasting impact. I thank God that He has provided two places of employment that offer spiritual support and guidance as I navigate through the triumphs and trials that come my way. And lastly I am blessed to be a part of Culture Kids, to grow as an organization and grow in our friendship, and to be a part of something much bigger than ourselves.
